The Corona Chronicles: Downtown Savannah, Georgia

As the days seemingly blur together, we lose track of what day of the week it is. I can only wonder if "social distancing" is the only way to stop the spread or is there more to this than what it seems. I am beginning to feel like my day, today is the same as yesterday, which is even similar to the day before that. However, now a new thought is forming in my mind. Will this social distancing become the new “norm”? Will we ever see a crowded downtown street as we race from the parking lot to a nightclub’s entrance? Will we ever see a city park full of kids playing and enjoying their youth without fear? Will we ever get to visit a professional sports stadium crowded with die-hard fans swapping sweat as we shove each other from pure excitement after a huge game-changing play? Will we ever be able to crowd around a table for a loved one's birthday party and watch them blow out the candles without a sense of worry crossing our minds?⁣ ⁣
As a street/landscape photographer, I once read that we are the keepers of time and history. We are supposed to be the ever so quiet fly on the wall. The one that sees everything around them yet remaining practically undetectable. At each snap of a photograph, we document that very moment in time. Our pictures are 4" x 6" time capsules of how this moment was for future generations to see. With that being said I wanted to put together a small project as my way to provide history with documentation of what living amongst COVID-19 (Coronavirus) was like. I want to present to the future what social distancing looked like out in the open of a city park. This is how the current city of Savannah, GA is looking after a few weeks of being given the all-clear to reopen their society. This is how people were trying to cope with having to maintain the necessary 6’ apart yet still being connected.⁣ ⁣
This was an eye-opener as it could really become the new “norm” and may never fully go away.⁣

I can say this, that experience was definitely an eye-opener. Being as to could this really become the new “norm” and never fully go away?
